The most vulnerable in Gaza are in desperate need.

Sun of Freedom has been distributing food and vital aid to children, people with disabilities and neglected families across Gaza.

The relentless bombardment of Gaza has created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, disproportionately impacting children and individuals with disabilities. Over 1.9 million Palestinians have been forced from their homes, seeking refuge in overcrowded camps with limited access to basic necessities.

Of those displaced, 47.3% are children, and over 441,000 are people with disabilities. The severe lack of food, clean water, and medical care is exacerbating an increase in starvation, disease, and immense trauma among these vulnerable populations. There are no facilities available that support those with disabilities during displacement, which puts them at greater risk.

Gaza faces a critical humanitarian crisis

In displacement, children and people with disabilities are disproportionately affected.

  • Over 84 percent of health facilities have been significantly damaged or entirely decimated, and the few that remain struggle to operate adequately due to power outages and water shortages, leaving those with disabilities without support.

  • People with disabilities face far more obstacles accessing humanitarian aid and reaching safety.

  • In Gaza, people with disabilities fear being targeted first due to their limited mobility to flee.

  • One in three children in northern Gaza are suffering from severe acute malnutrition, rapid weight loss and muscle wasting.

Gaza has one of the youngest populations globally, with 47.3% of its residents under the age of 18. The conflict has resulted in a staggering number of child amputations, with more than 10 children losing one or both legs every day, often without anaesthesia.

There are over 441,00 people with disabilities in Gaza, which accounts for 21% of the population. They are struggling to access shelter, food, and essential medical care.

The conflict in Gaza has resulted in a heartbreaking loss of life, leaving at least 31,000 children orphaned and thousands more losing one parent.
